A New House for Teresa

Cyclone Freddy hit Mozambique in February 2023, and a second time in March, leaving homes, schools, crops, and roads damaged, areas flooded, and people displaced. Teresa, a 17-year-old girl, is one of the many affected by the cyclone. She lives with her mother Rosa who is physically disabled. Their house was damaged by the cyclone. They need a new place to live and we’re helping to rebuild.

Our Computer Lab

Dramatist Victor Hugo once said, “He who opens a school door, closes a prison.”
That’s true. We are committed to impacting the kids of Mutua by creating a safe and comfortable learning environment, and encouraging them to be curious about learning, inspire them to greater things and potentially help them avoid some of the pitfalls in life.

    Who We Are

Hi, I’m Orlando and I started this project together with my wife Joaquina. In 2015 I visited Mutua for the first time and found out there was a huge need in the field of education. While I didn’t feel I had the skills to help at this time, my heart went out to the children here and the idea of one day being able to do something to make a difference had started to form. I myself had grown up in a small village similar to Mutua, and know the struggle to make a life better than what you’re born into. I was fortunate and was able to find opportunities when I moved to Beira, one of the largest cities in Mozambique, where I lived and worked as a teacher for many years. But it was only after completing the Young African Leaders iInitiative Program (YALI) at the University of South Africa (UNISA), that I felt I was finally capable of doing something that could change Mutua. So in 2017, along with my wife and two children, I moved to Mutua, inspired to use my knowledge and life lessons to provide the children with better opportunities and hopefully brighter futures.
