Welcome to Mutua! Our little village is around 50 kilometers from Beira, the closest city, and 1500 kilometers from Maputo, the capital of Mozambique. We have around 20, 000 people in our community. Most people here make a living by farming, fishing, and selling crops.

Here is the local well where everyone goes in the morning to collect fresh water for the day.

You can see mothers going to the farm for the day. They will spend the whole day farming. They are carrying food on their heads and water containers in their hands to feed themselves with during the day. The dog is used for safety in case anything dangerous happens with the ladies. The dog will also hunt while the ladies work.

The people here live in small houses they build themselves. Typically using thatch, stick/wood, mud, mudbrick, rammed earth, and stone.

In the photo above, you can see the local children playing cards together. In the photo below they are playing football. They use a balloon and plastic bag to make a ball.

There are three primary schools in Mutua, they go from grade 1 to grade 7. When not in school, the kids spend their time playing together. The older kids will take care of their younger siblings throughout the day.
